WEST ALEXANDRIA — Sidney Mowell, a 2019 graduate of Twin Valley South, was selected to be a part of the newly formed U.S. Space Force.

Mowell is the daughter of Matthew and Amanda Mowell from West Alexandria. Sidney is a four-year honor roll student from Twin Valley South and a four-year letterman in volleyball and track. After high school Sidney went on to earn an Associates Degree in Visual Communications from Sinclair Community College, making the Dean’s list in every semester.

After completing her degree Sidney was unsure what the next step in her life would entail, so she decided to join the Air Force. After scoring well on her ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) she was approached to see if she would be interested in being a part of the Space Force, according to her father. After completing the extensive application process and waiting for weeks she got the call that she was selected to be a part of the Space Force.

Sidney will be heading off to basic training on Aug. 30, and will then be working in Cyber Operations for the Space Force. Sidney and her family, which includes her grandfather Ken D. Clark, a retired veteran of the Air Force, are excited for this next chapter in her life.

The USSF is the newest branch of the Armed Forces. It was established Dec. 20, 2019, with enactment of the Fiscal Year 2020 National Defense Authorization Act.
