July 4 Party on The Park

The West Alexandria Celebration Committee hopes that everyone enjoyed the Party in the Park, Big Bang Boom Car Show, both parades and the fireworks. Farmer’s Market

Come and support the WA Celebration Committee’s weekly Farmers’ Market every Thursday from 5-8 p.m., May through August. We showcase local food and produce vendors, local entertainment and independent consultants, including but not limited to Avon and Tupperware, and many local crafters who offer incredible deals! Space is still available if you wish to be a vendor. We offer live music, hot food and cold beverages, free parking and have public restrooms. Community Cookbooks are now available at the Farmer’s Market and the Pin Up Shoppe at 50 W. Second Street. These hard-bound, three-ring cookbooks lie flat, while open, for your convenience and contain 600 recipes submitted by our residents! Money raised is used by the Celebration Committee to provide the community with fireworks for July 4, and toys for Santa Villa. BBQ Chicken and Pork Chop Dinner

The WA Celebration Committee is having a BBQ Chicken and Pork Chop Dinner, Sunday, July 19 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Pick up is next door to the Subway on Ohio 503 N. Half of a chicken dinner is $7 or 3/4lb. pork chop dinner is $8. Dinner includes choice of green beans or baked beans, applesauce and dinner roll. Order deadline is July 15. Order ahead by calling Carol Lunsford at 937-839-4085 or Pick up order forms and drop off or mail to The Pin Up Shoppe, 50 W. Second St. Proceeds will help fund the Fourth of July Fireworks for the village.

Twin Valley Rod & Gun Club Annual Youth Night

TVR&GC will hold their Annual Youth Night on July 21 from 6-8 p.m. at 9361 Germantown Pike. Youth 17 years and younger are invited to learn and earn prizes with supervised archery, bait-casting, rifle/air-rifle and shotgun shooting. Refreshments will be served. This event is made possible by a Division of Wildlife Grant.

American Legion

The fourteenth Annual Car & Bike Cruise-in, Hog Roast and Dance will be Saturday, July 25 at James E. Ryan, Post 322, 1477 Ohio 503 South. The Cruise-in begins at 3p.m. and includes dash plaques, trophies and raffle for entries. The Hog Roast is from 5-7 p.m. at a cost of $10 per plate. The Silvertones Dance Band will play with no cover charge from 8-11p.m. No children admitted after 8 p.m. Enjoy Old-time Country and Western music every Thursday from 1-4 p.m. with the Senior Fun Bunch. This includes coffee and snacks with no cover charge and is open to the public. Call the Canteen at 839-4825 or watch Facebook for any updates.

WACOCA Community VBS

Scar Force Vacation Bible School, the real saga, the true force, begins Monday July 20 and runs through Friday July 24 from 6-8:30p.m. at the First Brethren Church, 28 E. Third Street. With amazing activities, games, crafts, music and out-of-this-world characters and great Bible training, kids from Preschool through sixth grade can train to join Jesus’s Disciples. Parents can register their children online at walexvbs.doodlekit.com or contact the church by calling 839-4159.

Foodbank

The Foodbank served 72 families during June. This incudes 36 seniors, 107 children and totals 278 individuals. Items needed are tuna, egg noodles, pork & beans, ramen noodles, peas, pancake mix, shampoo and toothpaste. We are now receiving fresh garden produce and school supplies. The Foodbank is open from 10a.m. to 12p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays and is located at St. John Church, 20 E. South Street. Contact the Foodbank at 839-1615 for additional information. Non-perishable donations can also be dropped off at Salem and St. John Lutheran Churches on the first Sunday of each month.

WA Library Summer Reading

Our theme for July is Super Heroes! We will continue our weekly contests and activities for prizes and a chance for a grand prize at the end of the Summer Reading Program. Do-it-yourself crafts include making comic book wallets, create-a-cape, and on July 22 we will be creating mini comic books. Every Wednesday at 1 p.m. is Children’s Story time with snacks, story and messy crafts!

Salem Lutheran Church

Marie Reynolds Memorial Scholarship Applications are available for members in the Church Office Secretary’s door. Completed application and required documents are due no later than July 15 and can be returned to the Church Secretary’s office or mailed to Salem Lutheran Church, 70 E. Dayton Street. The LYO Canoe Trip is planned, weather permitting, for Saturday, July 18 at 10a.m. Sign-up deadline is July 12. Cost is free to LYO members or $10 for guests. Contact

Mens’ Breakfast and Bible Study meets Saturday, July 18 at 7:30a.m.

SWELCA will host their Summer Splash, Tuesday, July 21 at 6:30p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. All women of area churches are invited to attend and enjoy great fellowship and food. Please RSVP no later than July 16 by contacting the church at 839-4210 or Connie Smith at 839-6090.

Coups for Troops will send your unwanted or recently expired coupons to military families overseas. The Military Commissaries will accept coupons up to two months past expiration dates. Coupons may be placed in the designated basket in the Church Library. For additional information, leave a message for Bill Cochran at the church by calling 839-4210.
