Kids and Families

Story times

The New Paris Library has story time for ages 7 and under every Monday at 5 p.m. through July 11.

The West Alexandria Library has story time for ages 7 and under every Wednesday at 1 p.m. through July 20. Bring the kids for a story and a fun craft for Summer Reading!

On Monday, June 20, at 4:30 p.m., the West Elkton Library will have a ‘Focus on the Fifties’ story time. After a reading of Ellen Stoll Walsh’s ‘Hop Jump,’ we’ll design a roller skate and play a game of Pin the Hair on Elvis.

Weekly Summer Reading activities

For kids age 12 and under, the Eaton Library has special programs twice a week through the Summer Reading months. Get to the library and watch plays, readers theater, hands-on activities, crafts, and more! The activities vary each week on Wednesday at 10 a.m. and a repeat of the week’s program on Thursday at 2 p.m. through July 14.

Marshmallow shooters

Bring the kids to make a marshmallow shooter at the Camden Library on Tuesday, June 21 at 5:30 p.m.

Eggbot

Our portable robotic egg designer was a big hit at the West Alexandria Library last year. We’re bringing it back on Monday, June 20 at 3 p.m. Watch as it draws computer-created designs onto wooden eggs and help design an egg for yourself.

Tech Toy Tuesday

Exercise your mind at the West Alexandria Library on Tuesday, June 21 at 1 p.m. We’ll have stations set up to try the library’s tech toys: robotic Cubelets, Snap Circuits, Quiver Coloring, and Lego Fusion.

Minute to Win It!

For ages 8-12: Race against the clock in several fun games, like Cup-Stacking, Cookie Face, KaBroom, and more! The Minute to Win It games will be at each library:

Monday, June 20: Eaton Library at 2 p.m.

Tuesday, June 21: Eldorado Library at 1 p.m. and New Paris Library at 3 p.m.

Wednesday, June 22: West Manchester Library at 12:30 p.m. and West Alexandria Library at 2 p.m.

Thursday, June 23: Camden Library at 1 p.m. and West Elkton Library at 3 p.m.

Monday family crafts

Visit the West Alexandria Library each Monday through Summer Reading (June 6-July 18) for a new craft! From 12-7 p.m. every Monday, you can stop in at our craft area. If you don’t have time, most of the crafts can be taken home to complete.

Teens (grades 6-12)

Super Mario Maker Challenge

Play Super Mario Maker on the Wii U! Take our course maker challenge. You can create a course in the game and have other teens play your course. We’ll also have old school four-player Mario Kart Double Dash on GameCube. Snacks and prizes for everyone! Take the Mario Maker Course Challenge at the following locations/times:

Henna Temporary Tattoos

Get a temporary tattoo on your arm or hand using henna, using dye from the henna tree! Make a design on your skin and stain the figures with henna dye. You must have a signed permission slip to attend. Registration is required for the Eaton Library.

Splatoon

Play Splatoon, the super fun team game with ink-spraying, squid-like Inklings, on the Wii U! We’ll have two programs: one on Wednesday, June 22 at 3 p.m. and another on Friday, June 24 at 2 p.m. Registration is required. Register in person at or call (937) 456-4331.

Open Computer Lab

Take advantage of the libraries new open lab hours for help with your mobile devices, Microsoft Office, research, using the library catalog, or any tech-related issue you have! No appointment is necessary. Open lab hours will be 1-4 p.m. on the following Saturdays: June 18, June 25, July 2, and July 9.

Tai Chi with Sandra Loy

Tai Chi has many health benefits! It is considered a form of ‘meditation in motion,’ which promotes serenity and inner peace. It has evolved over the years into an effective means of alleviating stress and anxiety and that’s something we all can benefit from in today’s stress-filled world. Join Sandra Loy as she explains the benefits and teaches us some basic moves on Saturday, June 25 at 1 p.m. at the Library Meeting Room, which is at 450 S. Barron St. in Eaton.

Tea Party

Join us for a cup of tea at the West Manchester Library on Wednesday, June 22 at 3 p.m. We’ll discuss recent book and movie releases before the adult craft at 4 p.m. This month’s adult craft is Spa Night at the Library when we’ll learn about soaps and lotions.

Be a Kid Again: Outdoor Fun

Remember the outdoor games you loved as a child? The monthly adult program series focuses on reminding adults of childhood. On June 28 at 6 p.m., we’ll get outdoors and play with bubbles, play hopscotch, jump rope, and more! If there’s bad weather, we’ll adapt for indoors.
