Kids and families

Homeschool Hour

Preble County District Library’s popular Homeschool Hour education program will be Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 3 p.m. at the Eaton Library. During this session, we’ll learn about bugs. The monthly program is for homeschool students and educators.

Story times

Bring the kids (ages 11 and under) to the New Paris Library for a story and a craft. Story times will be Oct. 3, 17, and 24 at 5 p.m. each day.

The Camden Library will have story times, also for ages 11 and under, on Oct. 4 and 11 at 5:30 p.m.

Lego Building contests

Kids in grades K-5 can show off their Lego building skills at one of the library’s Lego contests in October. Prizes will be awarded to the top builders in different age groups.

The West Elkton Library will host a Lego contest on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 4 p.m., and the New Paris Library has a contest on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 10:30 a.m.

Totally Gross Magic Show

See magician Gordon Russ’s alter ego Dr. Ooze perform magic at its grossest at the Camden Library on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 5:30 p.m. If you like strange bodily noises, slimy green stuff and foot fungus, this show is for you. Every child at the show will receive a totally gross noise maker. This show is rated PG (Pretty Gross).

Newt’s Magical Map Quest

Get ready for the movie release of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them with this program at the Eaton Library on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 6:30 p.m. Join us to hunt for magical and mystical beasts from the world of Harry Potter! Each adventurer will receive a map that leads the way to the creatures. Find them all and collect your reward. There will be games, prizes, and refreshments. Families are welcome to come in a family-friendly “Wizarding World” costume.

After School Fun

Join us at the Camden Library for fun after-school activities on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 5:30 p.m.

Harvest Parties

Celebrate cooler weather and a beautiful fall! We’ll have a coloring contest, games and an assortment of baked goods at the West Manchester Library (Oct. 19 at 4:30 p.m.) and the Eldorado Library (Oct. 20 at 4:30 p.m.)

Teens (grades 6-12)

Tabletop Gaming

(Limited to high school students in grades 9-12) The Eaton Library’s Tabletop Gaming programs continue every other Monday in October. On Oct. 3 at 5 p.m., we’ll play Small World and Zombie Fluxx. On Oct. 17, we’ll play Munchkin Panic and Dixit. Snacks will be provided, and gameplay can last up to two hours.

Anime Club: Chopsticks

For grades 6-12: watch anime, try Japanese snacks, and try our chopstick challenges at the Eaton Library on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 3:30 p.m. Registration is required. Sign up at the Eaton Library front desk or call (937) 456-4331.

Plants vs. Zombies Tournament

Compete in Plants vs. Zombies on the Xbox 360 at the Eaton Library. The tournament for teens in grades 6-12 is on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 3:30 p.m. Top player wins a Plants vs. Zombies sunflower plush! Everyone gets a prize for participating. We’ll also have snacks and PvS crafts! Registration is required. Sign up at the Eaton Library front desk or call 937-456-4331.

Write On! creative writing group

Complete creative writing prompts and talk with other teens about writing at the Write On! creative writing group at the Eaton Library. You can share your work aloud, but you don’t have to. We’ll also have snacks. Program is for teens in grades 6-12 on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 3:30 p.m. Registration is required. Sign up at the Eaton Library front desk or call (937) 456-4331.

Tim Burton Halloween

Get ready for Halloween with Tim Burton-themed crafts and a popcorn bar! The teen program for grades 6-12 will be at:

West Elkton Library on Thursday, Oct. 20 at 4 p.m.

New Paris Library on Monday, Oct. 24 at 6 p.m.

Microsoft Word class

Learn the ins and outs of Microsoft Word at the Eaton Library on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 1 p.m. Change fonts, format text, add graphics and pictures, and create simple documents. Some previous computer experience is preferred.

Mystery Short Story Challenge

Pick up your form for the Eaton Library’s Murder Mystery competition. Write a short story for a chance to win a mystery-themed prize pack. Stories will be judged on structure/plot, characters/dialogue, style, and uniqueness. Stories are due by Oct. 19, and winners will be announced on Oct. 22 after the author visit by mystery author Heather Webber at 1 p.m.

West Elkton bake sale

Support your library and get some sweet treats and mums at the West Elkton Library on Oct. 3, 5, and 6. The Friends of the West Elkton Library are having their bake sale each day from 1-6 p.m. at the West Elkton Library.

Book sales

Support the New Paris and West Alexandria libraries at the October book sales.

The New Paris Library’s book sale is Saturday, Oct. 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and you can catch the Friends of the West Alexandria Library’s book sale at the village’s Oktoberfest festival in Peace Park on Oct. 8 and Sunday, Oct. 9 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.

Basic computer class

Are you new to computers and the internet? Are you familiar, but it’s been a while since you’ve used them? Take this beginner class at the Eaton Library on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 3 p.m. or at the Camden Library on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 2 p.m. for a primer.
