LEWISBURG — August is here and that means Lewisburg will be open for business! Derby Days, school starts, moms relax. Let the games begin!

Where has our summer gone? School graduations and parties were just celebrated, weddings were held and people have traveled all over the United States. But, because of the calendar, routines and schedules fall into place. However, August holds some real fun! Let’s enjoy the time that is left.

Pay it forward (correction to the praises)

The Lewisburg Alumni Association presented four $1,000 scholarships to deserving young graduates who are ready to spread their wings and work toward their future dreams. It is so exciting in this day of age that schools, large and small stand behind their young graduates. This year’s recipients included Jesse Cavendish, Bailey Cruse, Samuel Judd and Samantha Ward. Congratulations!

There are actually schools that are no longer open but their alumni continue to provide scholarships to deserving young people. One of these districts is Monroe Township. Even though the last class graduated in 1968, their alumni continue to offer financial support to graduates. This year they presented five $1000 scholarships which raises their total donations to date to $41,500! Hats off to the Monroe Alumni Association and our Lewisburg Alumni Association!

We have heard talk around town about this great water park! Seeing the children run and jump in the water is a sight to see. Is there a possibility that there could be a SENIOR DAY where seniors could run and jump and be kids again? We will talk to Mayor Putman and Municipal Manager Jeff Sewert about this issue. Details to follow. More Lewisburg Police patrol may be needed to control the gawkers and protesting children!

Celebrations and Projects in Lewisburg

The community center has been paid off! Volunteers are still needed to complete projects around the Center. Notify Pam Baker if interested. Thank you Lewisburg for a great project and for those who helped to see the dream come true!

Brown Memorial Library Microfilm Digitalization Project: Sponsor a reel of microfilm at $75 or make a donation of any amount earmarked for the “Save Lewisburg’s History Project”. Thirty one reels are in the process of being completed. That leaves fifteen reels to be sponsored. Thank you Lewisburg for saving our history. Our children to come will not have any idea how powerful Lewisburg has been unless they have access to their past. Thanks again!

A special birthday send out to Nancy Wysong who celebrated another milestone in her life on July 6. Nancy, you are strong and conscientious woman who makes a difference in Lewisburg. Thank you for all that you do. Didn’t know that you were a south paw. We hope that you had a marvelous birthday. (with all those left handed surprises) Nancy is very excited about her grandchildren visiting Lewisburg from Japan. Samuel Takao, eleven years old, will be arriving around July 28. Samuel will be traveling by himself for the first time. We know that he will be fine. His sister, Maki, a senior in Japan, will arrive two weeks later. Nancy, get that plane ticket to Japan for graduation. You will make her day.

Neighbor Night celebration update

Neighbor Night was held on July 1 at Lewisburg Trinity Lutheran Church. Cargill’s helped to sponsor this great event! Two hundred sixty five community members enjoyed this event. The winner of the thirty thousandth plus dinner was Ed Lawson. He proudly ate from the celebration plate and will be served that plate each week that he attends supper.

We would like to thank those who made this special day possible. They include:

• God: great weather and sunshine for this powerful event which brought so many together to share in the happening.

• Cargill’s — supplied hamburgers and hot dogs and grilled them

• LUMC and United Church of Christ for the potato salad. Linda Creech had quite a crew. The men cooked the potatoes and peeled them and Linda finished the fixings. Thank you!

• Village of Lewisburg — Prepared those fabulous baked beans and helped to set up the facilities.

• Delta Theta Tau, Boy Scouts, Victory Christian Church and Trinity Lutheran: Great desserts!

• Trinity Lutheran Church: Drinks

• Word of Faith: games for all ages

• Clowns for Christ

Thanks again to all who made this special celebration a success

Sightings

The Gratis sisters looking great but slowing down just like us. Thanks for asking about our trip.

Roy Ott, my 90-plus year-old heart throb. He moves better than me and doesn’t even have to struggle. Mows his yard and does just about whatever he wants to do. He shared that he loves life. It can’t get any better than that! So happy that you were able to attend the Patriotic celebration at Ware’s!

New addition to Lewisburg

Jerrod and Stephanie Studebaker welcomed home a baby boy on June 15. Jerrod Studebaker weighed in at 8 pounds 11.9 ounces and was 21 inches long. Jim Thomas, you still hold the record! Welcome Jerrod!

Lewisburg update

The annual Steak and Pork Chop Fry was held on Saturday, July 19, at the Community Center. After a delicious meal, the auction was held. The monies raised this night support and help to pay for the awesome fireworks held at Derby Days. It was shared that this was the best year yet! Thank you to all who participated. Each year, the famous applesauce cake was made. This cake sold for $1,100. You read it right! Homemade peach pies with locally grown peaches were sold for $100 a piece. Over $1,700 was raised with the steak fry and over $8,900 was made at the auction. Lewisburg, we love those fireworks!

In closing

So many activities are happening in our own backyards! It does take a village and we have the best. Look at the many projects that have been completed. It just doesn’t get better or let’s think about of the box. Senior Day at the Water Park? We would need traffic control from all the gawkers! Remember: “There is spirit; there is grace in our peaceful country place!” Until next week, we will see you Around the ‘Burg!
