Submissions open for 2017 summer music

OXFORD — Submissions for Oxford’s 2017 Summer Music Festival have opened on Oxford Visitor’s Bureau Facebook page.

The weekly concert series provides a concert in the Oxford Uptown Park every Thursday, June through August. Each week, there is anywhere from 500-1,000 audience members covering the park with lawn chairs.

The concert series is financially supported by area business owners and they make up the selection committee. Organizers have 13 weeks of music to fill and they try for a diversity of musical genre. Each year they hope to introduce a selection of new bands.

The selection committee meets in January to select the 2017 summer line up. The Visitor Bureau emails the music submitted by the public to the committee. The committee listens at home and picks their favorite. They then meet in person to decide the line up.

The submission sheet asks for band name, contact person’s name, where the band is located, a contact phone number and email for the band, the number of band members, the genre, the fee required, and a link to the band’s music.

Additional questions or comments should be emailed to Oxford Visitor Bureau’s Executive Director Jessica Greene at [email protected].
