EATON — Drugs were found at the scene of a single-vehicle crash on East Main Street in Eaton, on Monday, April 24.

According to Eaton Police Officer Lucas Schlumpf, the lone occupant of the Dodge Dakota pickup was heading west into Eaton when the vehicle traveled off the roadway, and went “about a 100 yards in the grass” before striking a tree.

The driver, unidentified at press time, was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by Eaton Fire and EMS personnel.

Drugs and impairment were suspected factors in the crash, as drugs were recovered at the scene, both “in the vehicle and on the person,” Schlumpf said.

The driver was drifting “in and out of consciousness,” Schlumpf said. The man, possibly in his early-mid 30s, was transported to the Preble County ER in Eaton, where Schlumpf said officers would interview him to continue the investigation.

Additional information regarding the driver and the crash were unavailable at press time.
