Eaton FCCLA students recognized

EATON — Eaton Board of Education member Terry Parks recently recognized and congratulated students who succeeded and competed in the FCCLA competition, that was held in Columbus.

During the June meeting, held on June 12, Parks recognized the students during his Miami Valley Career Technology Center report.

During his Parks and Recreation Board report, Keith Shepherd shared that the board met on May 22. Although, there was not a lot on the agenda, he said the board discussed new trees that need to be planted, especially at Fort St. Clair. He noted, there is a new concession stand at the softball field.

During her superintendent’s report, Dr. Barbara Curry said, “I just wanted to comment on our lovely graduation ceremony we recently had. The students and speeches were inspirational and meaningful. The high school staff worked hard behind the scenes.”

She added, this is a busy time of year for the school, since they are both closing out the previous year and preparing for the upcoming year.

The Board of Education approved the following resignations:

•Teacher Sara Morris, effective Aug. 11.

•Kindergarten Level Teacher Amy Stevens-Arend, effective July 1.

The board accepted the employment of Teacher Derek Lucas.

The board accepted the employment of the following non-certificated staff:

•Tiffany Baker, seventh through eighth grade football and basketball cheerleading.

•John Hitchcock, varsity boys tennis.

•Al Karn, assistant middle school track.

•Maggie Neanen, varsity softball.

•Harold Niehaus, dramatics director (fall).

•Dorothy Stoltz, program assistant for track.

•Mark Silvers, program assistant for track.

•Sean Sims, varsity boys basketball.

•Lisa White, flag corps advisor.

The board approved the administration’s recommendation to create and post the following positions for the 2017-2018 school year:

•Certified position for a half-time intervention specialist.

•Classified position for a special education aide.

The board approved the following out-of-state student travel:

•High school girls basketball teams and coaches to Richmond High School, June 6, 13, 20, and 27.

•High school girls basketball teams and coaches to Northern Kentucky University, June 16.

•High school girls basketball teams and coaches to Purdue Team Camp, June 23-25.

•Eaton High School Band and advisors to Richmond 40 Bowl, July 11.

The next Eaton Board of Education meeting will be held on Thursday, July 6 at Hollingsworth East Elementary at 6 p.m.
