Ohio permits titling and license plating of golf carts

EATON — The State of Ohio permits the titling and license plating of golf carts.

However, to obtain a title for a golf cart, you are required “by the State of Ohio” to have the golf cart inspected for safety equipment, according to Preble County Clerk of Courts Chris Washington.

The Title Department can provide a list of police departments in the state of Ohio that conduct the inspections, however, some police departments may only inspect golf carts for the residence of their community.

They are not required to inspect a golf cart for everyone, it is a service they offer, according to Washington.

Once the golf cart has been inspected, Washington said his office will be more than happy to provide a title.

Washington said documents needed are the inspection certificate, bill of sale with proof of payment of sales tax, if applicable, when coming to the Title Department.

If a golf cart has previously inspected and titled, is sold, and the new buyer wants to obtain a title, the State of Ohio requires another inspection of the golf cart.
