OXFORD — An Oxford “Healthier Community by Design” summit is planned for Sept. 25-27.

During an Oxford City Council meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 15, Oxford Coalition for a Healthier Community Project Coordinator Amy Macechko invited the council, employees, and public to attend the event.

“I am very excited that we are going to be hosting, with the support of many of our wonderful community partners including the City of Oxford, a Building a Healthier Community by Design Summit,” Macechko said.

“We have a consultant by the name of Mark Fenton, who is going to be coming to town. He is known as a national public health, planning, and transportation consultant. He is going to meet with various Oxford residents and professionals to look at how we can build a healthier community together.

“We’re talking about physical health, economic health, environmental health — just an overall healthier community.”

She added, they will be advertising and sharing more information for the summit as the date gets closer.

“We’re very excited about this opportunity and the work afterwards to continue the wonderful efforts in the community to make it a healthier community for all ages,” Macechko said.
