Gratis bicentennial time capsule closing changed

GRATIS — The date for the Village of Gratis bicentennial time capsule closing ceremony has officially changed.

The celebration was supposed to be held on Saturday, Sept. 23, but according to Bicentennial Committee co-chair Robin Richardson the change in schedule is due to “unforeseen circumstances.”

The new date is tentatively scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 8, but is not yet set in stone. However, the committee is hoping it does not change.

The celebration will mostly be the same as previously planned. Held at Herbert J. Coleman Park from 1-4 p.m., the event will feature live music, face painting, and an inflatable for the kids. There will not be a DJ like previously promoted.

The raffle for an autographed cover of a Peter Frampton album, from Donnie Lewis’ private collection, is still planned.

There will also be souvenir items available for purchase, including: bicentennial plates, books, t-shirts, and cds.

Gratis locals are also encouraged to drop off a small item or picture with a note to put in the time capsule. They are being asked to drop the item off at the council room prior to the celebration, so the committee is sure there is room for anything.
