Pig Tale winners announced

EATON — Each year in conjunction with the Preble County Pork Festival, students in grades 3-8 throughout the county are invited to write Pig Tales or Pig Poetry.

The tales and poems are to help promote the ideals of the Pork Festival – to promote pork products and pigs in a fun, family friendly way. All entries are collected by the Preble County Educational Service Center and judged. All entries are displayed at the Pork Festival and the top for in each group are awarded prize money through the Pork Festival.

This year over 120 entries were submitted for the Pig Tales & Poetry contest! The judges had a great time reading the entries and the winners for 2017 were:

3rd and 4th grade Tales: 1st place – Ben Cavendish of Tri-County North, 2nd place – Julia of Tri-County North, 3rd place – Keira Reeder of Tri-County North, 4th place – Tristin McIntosh of Tri-County North

3rd and 4th grade Poetry: 1st place – Bella Cherry of Tri-County North, 2nd place – Hayden Shannon of Tri-County North, 3rd place – Camron Rike of Tri-County North, 4th place – Jack V. of Tri-County North

5th and 6th grade Tales: 1st place – Miranda Ott of National Trail, 2nd place – Hannah Henderson of National Trail, 3rd place – Ashley Green of National Trail, 4th grade – Belle Anderson of National Trail

5th and 6th grade Poetry: 1st place – Belle Anderson of National Trail, 2nd place – Ava Brunk of Tri-County North, 3rd place – Trevor Davis of Eaton, 4th place – Anna Hoskens of Eaton

7th and 8th grade Tales: 1st place – Lily Marker of Twin Valley South, 2nd place – Skyelur Weber of Twin Valley South, 3rd place – Claire Fogle of Twin Valley South, 4th place – Joslyn Beneke of Twin Valley South

7th and 8th grade Poetry: 1st place – Amelia Wharton of Twin Valley South, 2nd place – Ellie Webb of Twin Valley South, 3rd place – Lynnlee Voge of Twin Valley South, 4th place – Ellie Hurst of Twin Valley South

The PCESC congratulates all the winners and thanks all students who participated. A special “thank you” also goes out to all teachers who encouraged students to participate.
