Absentee ballot applications

College students are encouraged to file an absentee ballot application for the Nov. 7, 2017, General Election, prior to leaving for college. The application must include the registered voter’s name, home address, school address, date of birth, either the last four digits of their social security number or their Ohio driver’s license number, date, and signature. Applications are being accepted in the Board of Elections Office, first floor of the courthouse or by mail addressed to the Preble County Board of Elections, 101 E. Main St., Eaton, OH 45320. Deadline for accepting applications is noon, Saturday, Nov. 4. For more information, call the Board of Elections at 937-456-8117 or 937-456-8118.

BOE meeting

The Preble County Board of Elections will conduct a regular business meeting on Thursday, Oct. 19, at 3 p.m. in the board’s office in the courthouse at 101 E. Main St., Eaton.

Road closure

Beginning Wednesday, Oct. 4, Foos Road is closed between U.S. 127 and Monroe Central Road for a bridge replacement. This closure will be specifically between Box 686 and 529 and will bec closed to all traffic for approximately 10 weeks. For additional information, visit www.prebeng.org.

Survivor Style Show

The American Cancer Society’s Survivor Style Show will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 24 in National Trail Elementary Gym. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 presale or $15 at door.Tickets may be purchased at Your Flower Shop in Eaton or at Color Me Crazy and Hairy Decisions in New Paris. Halloween Ghost Tours at PCHS

On Oct. 27-28, from 8-11 p.m. the Preble County Historical Society will host Halloween Ghost Tours. A Victorian style house tucked away, steeped in local history, where phantom footsteps walk the halls and children’s laughter fills the upstairs. And it is right here in Preble County. Join PCHS staff and volunteers as they lead a tour of history and mystery where attendees will hear the eerie happenings of the Sayler-Swartsel House. Adult Ghost Tours, ages 12 and up, $12. The tour will be in a completely darkened house, led by a guide by lantern light. Maximum is 10 people per tour group. Reservations are made upon receiving payment. Arts Night Out

The Visual Arts Center will be hosting a special Halloween-themed Arts Night Out on Saturday, Oct. 28 from 6-10 p.m. There will be live music by John Kogge and The Lonesome Strangers. There will be a Campfire Cookout, Chili Cook-off, S’mores, craft beer by Yellow Springs Brewery, and Momma’s Pop-N-Kettle for food.

There will be Erica Keener: Where the Land Meets the Sky Art Activities, a photo booth, pumpkin glow maze, and no studio fee in the Clay Cafe. Costumes are encouraged.

Financial report available

The financial report for Eaton Community Schools, for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2017, has been completed and is available for public inspection at the Eaton Community Schools’ Treasurer’s Office, 304 Eaton-Lewisburg Road, during regular business hours.

City of Eaton financial report

The City of Eaton has filed its annual financial report for the year ending Dec. 31, 2016. Copies of the report are on file in the office of the Director of Finance, 328 North Maple Street, Eaton, and are available for inspection.

Notice of 2015-2016 audit

State auditors have completed their audit of the FY 15-16 financial records of Milford Township. A copy of the audit report is available for public inspection in the Fiscal Officer’s Office. Contact Mollie Hansel, 513-255-2501 if you wish to view the report

PCRTA meetings

Preble County Retired Teachers Association next meeting will be Nov. 14. All meetings are on the second Tuesday of the month, and all begin at noon at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Enterprise Rd., Ingomar, near West Alexandria. All retired educators are encouraged to attend. In addition to socializing and a meal, PCRTA shares news of interest to all retirees, information regarding STRS and ORTA benefits, legislation, local community and school interests, the Tools for Schools initiative, entertainment and much more. Tornado siren testing

Testing of all sirens in the county will be conducted on the first Wednesday of each month at noon. In the event of inclement weather, sirens will not be tested that month.

Humane society wish list

The Humane Society of Preble County is always in need of the following items: cat litter (scoopable or non-scoopable), dry kitten food, canned puppy food, Clorox bleach, liquid Lysol or Fabuloso, liquid laundry detergent, air freshener, trash bags (33 gallon or tall kitchen bags), large Nyla bones and fabric softener sheets for dryers. Drop off these much-needed items to the shelter during operating hours. The Humane Society of Preble County is located at 951 S. Barron St, Eaton.

PCESC meetings

The regular monthly meetings of the Preble County Educational Service Center Governing Board will be held the fourth Wednesday of each month, with noted exceptions, at the PCESC facility located at 597 Hillcrest Drive, Eaton, at 5:30 p.m. Meeting dates are: Oct. 25, Nov. 15 (third Wednesday;) Dec. 15 (fourth Friday, time changed to 3:30 p.m.)
