AppleFest this weekend

NEW PARIS – AppleFest will take over the village of New Paris this Friday evening, Sept. 25-Sunday, Sept. 27, as Preble County jumps quickly into fall festival season.

The festival will run from 5-11 p.m. on Friday, 8 a.m.-11 p.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on Sunday on the grounds of the old Jefferson School in the village. Community church services will be held at 10 a.m. on Sunday to kick off the day.

The public is invited to visit New Paris for the street-fair atmosphere which includes rides and games, a flea market, and lots of crafts to peruse and purchase.

Contests for the weekend included coloring and other contests for youngsters, an apple baking contest, and more.

The event also includes a beer garden and live music, as well as music from DJ Bill Floyd. There will be a high school marching band and cheer competition to liven the weekend, and special displays from Wild Heart Animal Shows.

The AppleFest Parade will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Also on Saturday, from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m., the Kiwanis International Club of New Paris will sponsor the 4th Annual AppleFest Car Show. The show will take place on East Main Street in the village, and gives participants the chance to win raffle and door prizes and more.

Sponsored by the New Paris Chamber of Commerce/Convention & Visitor’s Bureau, AppleFest also gives everyone the opportunity to grab the traditional apple dumplings to eat during the apple-themed weekend that’s full of family fun.
