County dispatch merger still in approval stages

EATON — The Preble County Commissioners’ office is working on approving the dispatch merger with the City of Eaton, but not much progress has been made since the city accepted the commission’s counter offer on Tuesday, Oct. 31.

During a meeting on Monday, Nov. 20, commissioners noted receipt of a letter from Bradley Collins, City Manager of the City of Eaton, noting the city’s intent to accept the county’s dispatch consolidation counter proposal. The city held a special meeting on Halloween night where they verbalized their intent to accept the offer.

While the commissioners did approve the letter, Clerk Connie Crowell informed President Chris Day she had not made much headway on the project.

The dispatch merger was not the only major topic the commissioners handled during the meeting on Nov. 20. They also noted receipt and considered approval of a legal ad, bid specs, and bid form for the Preble County Building addition. However, there was not much discussion on the matter.

“There has been other things that needed to be done before we get to that,” she explained. “We’re in the process of working on it.”

Commissioners noted receipt of an official certificate of 2018 estimated resources. In the General Fund, commissioners are estimating a balance of $13,664,641.96 for the upcoming year. The total certificated amount for 2018 is $53,109,605.71.

Commissioners authorized an expenditure of $4,000 for prisoner housing in Mercer County. According to Day, this makes for a total of $83,160 for outside prisoner housing this year.

They also noted receipt of a letter from Joleen Cook, Ohio EPA, referencing the approval of an explosive gas monitoring plan alteration.

“This is what we were waiting on,” Day added. “I believe everything is good to go on this.”

In other business, the commissioners:

•Noted receipt and considered approval of a legal ad, bid specs, and bid form regarding the 2018 Aggregate Bid.

•Approved the re-appointment of Frances Clark to the Preble County Mental Health and Recovery Board.

•Noted receipt and considered approval of the amendment to Child Placement Agreements with New Beginnings in an increased amount of $55,000 and Michael’s Resource and Treatment Center in the increased amount of $10,000.

•Noted receipt and considered approval of a child placement agreement with Cornell Abraxas Group in the amount of $7,000.

The Preble County Commissioners meet every Monday and Wednesday at 9 a.m. in the courthouse.
