WEST ALEXANDRIA — The Ascension Life Church located in West Alexandria, at 3555 Fisher Twin Road, will be hosting the Machine Gun Preacher, Sam Childers, on Sunday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m.

Doors will open for the program at 6:25 p.m. as seating is limited in the church.

Childers’ life was the subject of a Hollywood movie, “The Machine Gun Preacher” starring Gerard Butler as Childers.

The movie was based on his bestselling book, “Another Mans War” and it illustrates the real life challenge that Sam experienced in Africa and the US.

Childers overcame a life of drugs and violence to embrace his faith in God and to free enslaved children in what are some of the most dangerous areas of South Sudan.

His organization, Angels of East Africa maintains orphanages in South Sudan, Ethiopia, and Northern Uganda.

In late 2014 a bloody coupe attempt began and turned into a tribal war in South Sudan, and the conflict continues today.

Childers and his team are actively involved in rescuing children in that area right now.
