GRATIS — According to Dale Smith of the Gratis Utility and Street Department, the village’s well rehab is complete.

During a Gratis Village Council meeting on Thursday, April 5, Smith informed council crews were scheduled in on Monday, April 9 to complete thework. He added, sulfate has been delivered, which was approved at a previous meeting.

Smith reported, a delivery truck hit the mirror on the water truck and busted it. He noted, the delivery company agreed to replace the mirror.

The water tower recently was inspected, with the only concern being the paint on top of the tower. Everything else regarding the water tower passed inspection., according to Smith.

Council also approved spending up to $350 at Steinke’s to have mowers serviced.

A pre-permit inspection by the EPA was scheduled at the waste water plant on April 20.

At a regular council meeting held on March 1, a motion was made to approve spending up to $10,000 to have preventive maintenance done on pump two. Moody’s has completed the work, the pump is still offline and was to be up and running on Monday, April 9. The final cost was $12,208, including: new pump ($2,148), cost to remove pump and video inspect well ($1,800), surge well for four days at $1,500 per day for a total of $6,000, chemicals ($600), and install new pump and test ($1,600).

Council approved a motion to approve these additional charges, totalling $12,208.

Fire Chief Jeff King asked council for an approval to spend up to $3,500 to service a vehicle. He explained, the department is having problems with the hydraulics and electrical system. In the quote, they are looking at a separate issue in the transmission. If they find something there, the department may have to come back to council for additional approval. The vehicle in question is Rescue Unit 18.

Gratis Village Council meets every first and third Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. in the village building.
