Autumn activities planned by historical society

EATON — The Preble County Historical Society has several fall events on the calendar this month.

Pumpkin glow

The first Preble County Historical Society Pumpkin Glow will be held on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 26-27, at the center located at 7693 Swartsel Road, Eaton. Stroll through lighted pumpkins glowing across rows of limestone seating, enjoy a cup of mulled apple cider and a tasty pumpkin or apple cider donut from Today’s Harvest. The event is free, and will be held during the society’s ghost tours. Visit the website at www.preblecountyhistoricalsociety.org for further details.

Everyone can register to participate in this event by creating and entering a fun, festive or scary pumpkin. Small pillar candles will be available on the premises. All entries must be registered by 5 p.m., Thursday Oct. 25, to be entered for judging and a prize for anyone placing 1st place in the following categories: Scariest Pumpkin, $50 gift card; Most Original Pumpkin, $50 gift card; Funniest, $50 gift card.

Historic Mound Hill Cemetery Tour

There will be a historic Mound Hill Cemetery Tour on Saturday, Oct. 13, at 7 p.m. Learn about the history of Eaton’s cemetery and hear the stories of the first settlers who found their final resting place at Mound Hill. The cemetery is full of history, intrigue, and tales of love and loss. This is a historic tour, not a ghost tour. Participants will meet at the parking lot beside Mound Hill Cemetery at 6:45 p.m. The tour will start at 7 p.m. and will last about 90 minutes. It is a lantern walking tour but everyone is encouraged to bring flashlights. The cost for the tour is $15. There is a limited number of spots for the tour. Haunted Hayride

Where? Preble County Historical Society Haunted Farm, 7693 Swartsel Rd. Eaton, on Friday, Oct. 12th and Friday, Oct. 19, 7:30-11:30 p.m. Cost is $10, which includes 30-minute haunted hayride, drink, snack, and bonfire.)
