Smith introduces bill providing tax relief for volunteer firefighters

COLUMBUS — State Representative J. Todd Smith (R-Germantown) has introduced legislation which would provide tax relief to volunteer firefighters, authorizing a deduction from taxable income up to $1,500 and exempting up to $1,500 from withholding requirements.

Rep. Smith initiated House Bill 751 after conversations with a volunteer fire department in his district. The bill, he said, is intended to provide hard-working men and women risking their lives for their communities with a measure of financial relief as they serve Ohioans around the state.

“One of the greatest things I get to do as state representative is serve my constituents and attempt to make their lives better,” said Smith. “Every day in our communities, there are those who are willing to put their lives on the line to protect us. This legislation is intended to give back to those who give us so much.”

Having been recently introduced, House Bill 751 awaits further consideration.
