Eaton hosts leadership course, reports on activities

EATON — The City of Eaton recently hosted the Preble County Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Preble County session on Local Government.

City Manager Brad Collins thanked staff for their efforts in the session during the Eaton City Council meeting on Monday, Feb. 18.

Collins added, Eaton Police, Fire, and EMS also participated in a recent multi-agency Crisis Intervention Training (CIT). This provided staff a better understanding on how to communicate with those in crisis.

For January, the City of Eaton Fire and EMS report shows a combined response of 235 calls; 159 EMS responses, including 17 second medic responses and 76 fire/rescue responses, including eight general alarms. The division received mutual aid 12 times and provided mutual aid five times. This is an average of 6.54 calls per day for the month.

In other business:

•Council approved an ordinance amending the official zoning map of the City of Eaton to change the zoning district classification of lots 1987 and 1988, located at 828 East Somers Street.

The City of Eaton Planning Board previously voted to make a favorable recommendation on the application, based on the support and approval of the neighbors, as submitted by Theresa George to amend the Zoning District Classification of Lots 1987 and 1988 from R-1B Single Family Residential to R-2 Central Residential District.

•Council approved an ordinance to make appropriations for current year expenses and other expenditures of the City of Eaton during the fiscal year ending Dec. 31.

•Council approved an ordinance updating the credit card policy for the City of Eaton, and declaring an emergency.

•Council approved a resolution to adopt the Preble County 2018 Multi-jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan.

•Council approved a resolution authorizing the city manager to enter into a contract for engineering services for assessment of the sludge digestion and handling systems.

The next regular Eaton City Council meeting will be held on Monday, March 18, at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the Eaton Municipal Building.
