Commissioners continue discussions with CDM Smith

EATON —During a meeting on Monday, April 1, Preble County Commissioners met with CDM Smith regarding Sewer District Six (SD6) and plans the company had previously submitted for it.

The following topics and questions were addressed during the meeting:

•The scope of the project and if Stoneridge is included. There are 261 houses included in the scope of the project, including Stoneridge.

•Whether Eaton or West Alexandria would be willing to partner on the project and allow a connection into their plant. Eaton has previously said it does not have the capacity, but CDM Smith has had only “baseline” conversations with West Alexandria.

•Are grant and loan combinations realistic and obtainable? Fred Smith, with CDM Smith, replied that in his experience it is realistic to combine grant and loan options and, further, his options he listed in the plans are obtainable.

•According to Smith, the timeline for this project, from planning to execution, is typically five years.

•The cost to residents who are going to be expected to utilize this system. CDM Smith estimates approximately $10,000 for residents to decommission their old system and tap into the new one.

•Possible locations for the treatment facility.

“As we move forward, we have some pretty stringent deadlines we have to meet and we have to get through this document so we can come up with cost,” Commissioner Chris Day said. “That being said, we’re going to have to have some very good communications at this point.

“We are under the gun and unless we want to start paying fines, we have to show them we’re moving forward.”

Smith promised to have an update by April 12.
