EATON — The Preble County Educational Service Center (ESC) Board of Education recognized winners of the Franklin B. Walter Scholarship during its meeting on Wednesday, April 24.

The Franklin B. Walter All-Scholastic Award was created in 1990 by OESCA (Ohio Educational Service Center Association) to honor Franklin B. Walter, past Ohio State Superintendent, and to recognize one top student scholar from each county in Ohio. Franklin B. Walter served as state superintendent from March 1977 until August 1991.

The Preble County ESC asks each school district in Preble County to submit one nominee from their district to be considered for the OESCA Franklin B. Walter Award Recipient. Each school is to select one nominee based upon, ACT/SAT scores, academic grades during their 9-12 high school career, school and community activities and awards, and a student goal statement. Each nominee receives a $250 scholarship from the Preble County ESC.

The overall county winner is recognized at the Franklin B. Walter Scholarship Luncheon in Columbus. This year’s scholarship nominees include: Kevin Lam from Eaton, Elizabeth Melton from National Trail (Preble County winner), Allison Zornes from Preble Shawnee, Grace Toth from Tri-County North and Nathan Osborn from Twin Valley South.
