Twin Valley increases athletic pass pricing

WEST ALEXANDRIA — During its meeting on Monday, June 24, the Twin Valley Community Local Schools Board of Education approved an increase in athletic pass pricing. The previous prices were: $60 for student, $75 for adult, $195 for family, and senior citizen passes were free. Board members approved the following prices: $60 for students, $85 for adult, $225 for family, and senior citizen passes remain free.

“The reason for the increase is the cost of officials going up each year and [our prices] were one of the lowest in the league. We hadn’t changed [prices] in a number of years,” TVS 7-12 Principal Scott Cottingim said.

Board member Jason DeLong asked if it would be possible for parents to set up payment plans, instead of paying for the pass all at once. Cottingim responded, he would look into it, but it should be possible as they do payment plans for other fees.

Board member Christine Bitner asked how they would handle the situation if, at the end of the season, the family did not pay the entire amount due. Cottingim promised to look into it.

Superintendent Joe Scholler reported on summer repairs and cleaning, noting “everything is going really well.” He also had Cottingim speak about the end of the year discipline report.

Bitner, as Legislative Liaison, gave her report on House Bill 166 and the State Report Card.

“They have to report by Dec. 15. That is very encouraging, that they are finally listening to the constituents that this is not working for us. That is pretty much the most important thing I have found,” she said.

In other business:

•The board approved the OSBA Policy Updates, the updated Athletic Handbook for the 2019-2020 school year, and the student handbooks for the elementary school, middle school, and high school.

•The board approved the district’s participation in the Federal School Lunch and Breakfast program for the 2019-2020 school year.

•The board approved the 2019-2020 student fees for all grades.

The next Twin Valley Community Local Schools Board of Education meeting will be held on Monday, July 22, at 6 p.m. in the TVS Media Center.
