EATON — McCabe Outdoor Mobility held its grand opening on Friday, July 19. The store offers a variety of scooters, wheelchairs, life chairs, and all medical mobility needs. The store located at 1200 East Main Street, Eaton.

Owners Kim McCabe and Jade Rigsby are passionate about meeting the mobility needs of the community, because they have a family member with those same needs.

“I started 11 years ago selling the Action Trackchair, because my husband fell out of a tree and was paralyzed. So that was an all-terrain wheelchair, and I worked with soldiers. From there, me and my daughter decided we would open a mobility shop and undercut pricing, because people spend so much on it. We try to help people out, because we are in the same situation,” McCabe said.

The co-owners are Eaton residents and after years of travelling wanted to bring their business local. They believe Eaton is a great, central location and will bring customers from all over the state of Ohio.

At McCabe Outdoor Mobility customers can find scooters, wheelchairs, ceiling lifts, chair lifts — anything to do with people’s mobility. The company works with numerous programs to help as many people as possible — from those with disabilities, to veterans, to farmers and more.

“We understand their needs. We’re not going to sell them something they don’t need and is not good for them. We want to make sure they are able to use it, lift it, operate everything that they have. When it comes to something as simple as a scooter, I make sure that the customer can break it down — I don’t want to sell them something and them get it home and can’t use it,” Rigsby said.

“We’re not in it for the profit, per se. We’ve become close friends with most of our customers. We live the life. I am the full time caregiver of my husband as well,” McCabe said. “We live the same life as they do and have the same needs, so we have more of an understanding.”
