NT MVCTC FFA holds degree ceremony

NEW PARIS — National Trail Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) FFA Chapter held its Greenhand and Chapter Degree Ceremony on Monday, Oct. 14. Seventy-one students received their Greenhand FFA Degree and 57 students received their Chapter FFA Degree.

The ceremony was conducted by the 2019 NT MVCTC Officer team: President Abbey Rodefer, Vice President Alyssa Zdobinski, Secretary Kacy Osswald, Treasurer Sara Norton, Reporter Hailey Koehl, and Sentinel Mark Armstrong.

The Greenhand FFA Degree is the first degree a chapter member can earn. To be eligible to receive the Greenhand FFA Degree from the Chapter, members must meet the following minimum requirements:

•Must be enrolled in career & technical agricultural class(es).

•Have a satisfactory Supervised Agricultural Experience Project planned for the current year.

•Have earned and can explain the meaning of the creed.

•Must be able to recite from memory the FFA motto.

•Must know the FFA colors and can describe the FFA emblem and symbols.

•Can explain the proper use of the FFA Jacket.

•Can identify the historical highlights of the FFA Organization.

•Must know the duties and responsibilities of FFA members and have an understanding of the aim and purposes, proper use of the FFA jacket and Code of Ethics of the FFA.

•Personally own or have access to an Official FFA Manual.

•Have submitted an application for Degree for Chapter Records.

These students will next have the opportunity to earn their Chapter FFA Degree and State FFA Degere.

To be eligible to receive the Chapter FFA Degree from the chapter, the member must meet the following minimum qualifications:

•Must have received the Greenhand FFA Degree.

•Must have satisfactorily complete the equivalent of at least 180 hours of systematic school instruction in agricultural education at or above the ninth grade level, have in operation an approved agriculture experience program and be enrolled in an agricultural education course.

•Have participated in the planning and conducting of at least three official functions in the chapter program of activities.

•Have earned and productively invested at least $150 by the member’s own efforts, or at least worked 45 hours in excess of scheduled class time, or a combination thereof, and have developed plans for continued growth and improvement in a supervised agricultural experience program.

•Have effectively led a group discussion for 15 minutes.

•Have demonstrated five procedures of parliamentary law.

•Show progress toward individual achievement in the FFA awards programs.

•Have a satisfactory scholastic record.

•Have participated in at least 10 hours of community service activities. These hours are in condition to and cannot be duplicated as paid or unpaid SAE hours.

•Submit a written application for the Chapter FFA Degree.

The degrees following the Chapter Degree include the State Degree and American Degree. Not all students will obtain their State or American FFA Degrees.
