Trail FFA competes in public speaking, meat judging

NEW PARIS — The National Trail MVCTC FFA Chapter has been busy, competing in chapter contests as well as celebrating FFA Week.

On Feb. 1, the National Trail MVCTC public speaking representatives competed in the chapter contest. The team members included Jesse Norton, Alyssa Zdobinski, Garland Weaver, Kacy Osswald, Blake Osswald, and Mary Welz. Jesse competed in the advance prepared contest, Alyssa competed in the extemporaneous contest, Garland competed in beginning prepared, Kacy was in advance prepared, Blake competed in creed, and Mary competed in advance prepared.

On Feb. 4, they also competed in the sub-district public speaking contest. Jesse Norton, Alyssa Zdobinski, and Garland Weaver all moved on from the sub-district contest to the district contest. At the district contest Jesse Norton placed 3rd, Alyssa Zdobinski placed 3rd, and Garland Weaver placed 2nd. Overall, the team did well throughout all the competitions they competed in.

On Feb. 8, the National Trail MVCTC FFA meats team competed in the Buckeye Invitational Meats Contest on hosted by The Ohio State University. The members of the team that competed include Lane Koehl, Dallas Smith, Jesse Norton, Phoenix Lewis, Paige Kowarsch, and Dayton Hunter. The team placed third at the contest.

Individually, Dayton Hunter placed third, followed by Paige Kowarsch in 10th, Lane Koehl in 20th, Jesse Norton in 25th, Phoenix Lewis in 30th, and Dallas Smith in 34th. The team is coached by John Kimball.

National Trail MVCTC FFA also recently celebrated FFA Week. In order to celebrate National FFA Week in the elementary at National Trail, the FFA hosted a coloring contest. The Personal Growth committee chaired by Samantha Toms organized the event. FFA members selected a coloring page for each grade level. FFA member Ryan Tirey selected a group of FFA members to serve as judges for the event.

In Kindergarten, Dane Rodefer placed first, followed by Hunter Winkelbach in second and Laila Robey in third. In first grade, Kya Ferguson placed first, followed by Brynn Davies in second and Hayden Barnes in third. In second grade, Paisley Patrick placed first, followed by Levi Lipps in second and Brooklyn Olivera in third. In third grade, Madison Loranzan placed first, followed by Chloei Unger in second and Kendalyn Bowers in third. In fourth grade, Kyla Rolland-France placed first, followed by Kamryn Howard in second and Octavia Dunn in third.

Congratulations to all elementary students who completed in the event! The National Trail MVCTC FFA Chapter looks forward to hosting the event again next year.
