Shannon named Eaton Employee of the Year

EATON — Eaton City Council named Administrative Secretary Marsha Shannon the City of Eaton’s 2020 Employee of the Year during their meeting on Monday, March 15.

“This is a tough one to select,” councilmember Gary Wagner said.

Mayor Joe Renner said the city had good feedback on a number of potential employees for the annual award, but everyone felt strongly about naming Shannon as the employee of the year.

“In this year, especially with Marsha getting ready to retire, I think everyone kind of came to the agreement that an honor for her was an order, and we certainly have a lot of good letters from department heads about her,” he said. “We’re not in a retirement meeting yet or retirement party yet, but she will be missed. There’s no doubt about it.”

The resolution reads, “Whereas, the City of Eaton council pays tribute to employees who have performed their duties in such a manner as to bring credit unto the City of Eaton, City Council and to themselves during the previous year, and; whereas, for this commendation for 2020, one employee possessed the devotion to duty and highest standards of personal integrity to have imparted this tone of excellence upon the City.

“Now, therefore, be it resolved by the Council of the City of Eaton, Ohio, that: Administrative Secretary Marsha Shannon is hereby honored as the City of Eaton’s 2020 Employee of the Year and be duly recognized for her achievements in making Eaton a better place to live!”

During City Manager Brad Collins’ update, he reported that Heritage Ohio will visit Eaton in April to perform an assessment of the city’s downtown area, and that manufacturing is beginning to fill in to the new expansions at Neaton and Henny Penny.

Council also unanimously approved Resolution 21-07 to accept the 2020 Community Reinvestment Area annual report, Resolution 21-08 to authorize the city’s contract with YMCA of Greater Dayton for management of the Main Street Aquatic Center and Resolution 21-09 to authorize the purchase of a new GMC Sierra HD chassis in the amount of $41,772.25 for public works.

The next Eaton City Council meeting will be held on Monday, April 19 at 6 p.m. in the City Building.
