Commodore Preble DAR recognizes Good Citizens high school seniors

PREBLE COUNTY — Commodore Preble Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is pleased to sponsor the DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship program in the Preble County high schools. DAR is a non-political women’s service organization whose mission is historic preservation, education, and patriotism. The Good Citizens program, created in 1934, recognizes and rewards high school seniors who possess the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in their homes, schools, and communities.

All five Preble County high schools participated in the 2020/2021 DAR Good Citizens Program by designating a senior who demonstrates the good citizen qualities promoted by DAR. All five seniors elected to participate in the essay portion of the program. This year’s essay title was Our American Heritage and Our Responsibility for Preserving It. The focus question that the students addressed in their 550-word essays was: how do the combined actions of so many good citizens keep our nation moving forward?

Liberty Chesney from Twin Valley South High School was the essay contest winner and Alyssa Zdobinski from National Trail High School was the runner up!

Good Citizens representatives from area high schools are:

Eaton High School: Rachel Lynn Rose Buckler, daughter of Anna and Brian Buckler.

National Trail High School: Alyssa Zdobinski, daughter of Angela and Mark Zdobinski.

Tri-County North Local Schools: Ashley Anne Jean, daughter of Melissa and Jason Jean.

Twin Valley South High School: Liberty Chesney, daughter of Wendy Chesney.

Preble Shawnee Jr./Sr. High School: Michelle Bulach, daughter of Amy and Mark Bulach.

Thank you to the exceptional leadership and cooperation of the guidance counselors from each of our area high schools. Without their assistance, the Good Citizens program would not operate as smoothly as it does. Thank you!

For the last several years the seniors and their parents have been honored guests at a Good Citizens recognition ceremony and reception held at the Preble County District Library. Due to current health restrictions for gathering, our chapter was again unable to host its annual Good Citizens reception.

Commodore Preble Chapter DAR congratulates all Preble County senior representatives in the Good Citizens Program and wishes them success in achieving their educational and personal goals.
