WEST ALEXANDRIA — Twin Valley South students honored area veterans on Veterans Day, Thursday, Nov. 11, during a special program which included music and readings recognizing those who have served in the American armed forces.

A history of the Pledge of Allegiance, written by Francis Bellamy, was presented. Twin Valley South students begin each morning by reciting the Pledge as a key foundation to the start of each day.

A slide show honoring the many veterans in the Twin Valley South community and a history of the Veterans Day holiday was also presented.

Several middle school student council members and others read messages for the veterans in attendance.

“Dear Veterans: those of us who have not served will never fully understand the sacrifices you’ve made, both in terms of peace and in war. We will never fully understand what you were required to do or how you were able to do it. We will never fully understand the depth of your scars. But we can offer you this. We see you. We recognize your humanity, and we send you love that is gentle, patient and feeling with blessings and gratitude. We ask that you remember you are loved,” was one message.

Another read, “To all those served or have served in the United States military. Thank you for being brave enough to do what you can. Thank you for putting the needs of our great country above your own. Thank you for selflessly putting your lives in harm’s way so that we can remain safe and free. Thank you will never be enough. Every American owes their freedom to you. God bless each and every one of our men and women in uniform.”
