NEW PARIS — The New Paris Police Department was assisted by both the Wayne County Indiana Sheriff’s Office and Darke County Sheriff’s deputies after a traffic stop led to a pursuit which crossed both county and state lines.

On Friday morning, May 27, a traffic stop was attempted on a vehicle for fictitious registration, according to a media release from the NPPD. The driver did not comply, according to an NPPD post on Facebook.

”This then led into a pursuit that crossed into Indiana, and then into Darke County just north of Preble County, where the vehicle lost control crashed into the ditch,” the post noted.

It continued, “Wayne County Indiana Sheriffs Office assisted with the pursuit and the apprehension of the subject. Upon searching the vehicle there was drug paraphernalia in plain view in multiple locations. There were multiple baggies found with unknown substances, as well as other drug abuse instruments. All are being sent to the crime lab for analysis.”

The DCSO assisted with completing the crash report, according to the release.

The subject, who was not named in the post, was charged with failure to comply, and obstruction, according to the post. “This individual was also found to have an active warrant out of Darke County. Added charges are pending with further investigation.”

Anyone having any information or tips about drugs or suspicious activity in their neighborhood is asked to call the NPPD at 937-437-2121. If no one answers, leave a message.
