Price’s Creek Watershed draft plan completed

PREBLE COUNTY — Last fall, the Preble Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) received a grant to prepare a Nine- Element Nonpoint Source Implementation Strategy (NPS-IS) plan for the Price’s Creek watershed in Preble County.

Price’s Creek empties into Twin Creek north of New Lexington and south of Lewisburg and drains an area extending northwest from Eldorado and southern Darke County, and southeast as far as Ohio 503 and New Market Banta Road.

Preble SWCD met one-on-one with landowners and held a community meeting to hear what is important to those who reside in or own land in the Price’s Creek watershed. One concern expressed by the many of the landowners was severe drainage issues. Additional issues brought up included streambank erosion, excess nutrients in the stream, and erosion on cropland, not to mention other concerns, according to PSWCD officials.

The draft watershed plan has been completed and is now available to the public. Interested parties who wish to review the plan or provide comments on it can contact BJ Price at Preble SWCD, either by email at [email protected] or by phone at 937-456-5159. Comments must be received by June 24.
