NEW PARIS — New Paris Village Council met on Thursday, July 7, to discuss upcoming projects and events being held in the village.

Council discussed the mid-year budget. The mid-year budget was due on July 15 to the Preble County Treasurer’s Office. The budget entails numerous details about the village’s funds including general, police, street and others, according to village officials. This budget is deemed important because it sets the parameters for 2023. Council passed resolution 2022-14 for the fiscal budget for 2023, which included items for special revenues and expenditures.

Council also passed a motion to send a letter to the Ohio Public Works Commission to inform them of a change to the project advisor on a High Street Bridge project from Susan Laux, to Tamara McNulty, due to conflicts with Laux now working for the Village of Lewisburg.

Concerning the High Street Bridge project, council also discussed the engineering agreement with Mote & Associates for a total of roughly $56,000. This price included all work, fees, plans, etc. Council approved the engineering agreement and it was signed by Mayor Kathy Smallwood.

The last item discussed by council concerned the village’s Applefest. Council approved a motion to begin the necessary paperwork which would allow there to be a beer and wine garden at the festival.

Due to the timing of Preble County Fair week, and some members being out of town, council will be holding its next meeting on Thursday, July 28 at 7 p.m.
