LEWISBURG — Lewisburg Village Council recognized Eagle Scout Sam Leist during a Tuesday, Aug. 16, meeting.

Fire Chief BJ Sewert invited Leist to be recognized at the meeting. Leist is a recent 2022 graduate from MVCTC and Eagle Scout. He was in the Fire and EMS program at MVCTC and for his project to earn the Eagle Scout badge he created a roof simulator with the help of his father, family, and LFD employee Bryan Sowers. The roof simulator is used to help new employees train for roof situations and includes an adjustable rooftop.

On behalf of the village, Sewert and Sowers presented Leist with a Certificate of Appreciation for his work. “What is out there now is a valuable training tool for our department,” Sewert said.

Leist will be going into the military this fall but the LFD is grateful to him for his contribution to the community and opportunity to properly train any new staff.

Police Chief Rick McGee followed the discussion of safety by announcing the new school resource officer for Tri-County North. Jacob Isaacs will be the SRO for the coming school year, switching back from part-time to full-time with the department.

Last school year McGee was the SRO but with new employment he was able to recommend Isaacs for the position and believes Isaacs will do a great job being a safe presence in the school.

In other business:

•It was announced the Lewisburg Bicentennial Store will have a soft opening on Sept. 2 and be officially opened on Sept. 10.

•The Brown Memorial Library will be opening the story book trail on Sept. 2 and the story will be Curious George.
