Lewisburg welcomes Honey Bee’s Hair Salon

LEWISBURG — Mayor Marsha Jones, Lewisburg Village Council members, County Commissioner Adam Craft, State Representative Rodney Creech, and others welcomed Gina Sawyers and her new business, Honey Bee’s Hair Salon, to the community at the salon’s ribbon cutting on Saturday, Aug. 27.

The hair salon is located on 104 West Dayton Street, which was formerly Judy’s Salon.

Sawyers has been renovating the salon since February of this year and has been in the hair business for 11 years. She began school in 2009 and graduated in 2011. Sawyers began her hair career when her husband lost his job at General Motors. She was a stay-at-home mother and decided to try something different to help her family.

“Where did you have fun?” Sawyers reflected on asking herself while figuring out her career future. “Every time I went to the hair salon, everyone’s laughing and talking and for the most part having a good time. So, I decided to go to hair school.”

Sawyers shared more of her story about branching out and starting her own business. “I always never thought that I would. I talked about it but then I heard that Judy had retired. I was working over in Brookville and I just kept thinking about it and thinking about it — maybe I do want to go out on my own and do my own thing.”

Initially Sawyers was the only hair stylist at Honey Bee’s, but a week before the ribbon cutting her friend, Emily Burke, asked to join the team. The two will be available for appointments on opening day, Tuesday, Aug. 30.
