EATON — Mayor Joe Renner will continue to serve in his mayoral role in 2023, as will Vice Mayor David Kirsch. The two were re-elected by their fellow council members during Eaton City Council’s Monday, Dec. 5, reorganization meeting.

During the meeting, council also approved an ordinance for the continuation of the city’s ½ percent public safety income tax, a renewal which was approved by voters in November. The renewal is effective Jan. 1, 2023, through Dec. 31, 2025.

Mayor Renner thanked voters for their continued support of the public safety levy, noting it is indicative of the level of service provided.

Council also approved a resolution requesting the Preble County Auditor certify to the city the total current tax valuation of the city and the dollar amount of revenue which would be generated for a five-year period by the renewal of the Mound Hill Cemetery operating levy set to appear on the May 2, 2023, ballot.

In other business, council made appointments to various boards, including Dave Daily to the Planning, Zoning and Building Board; Paul Schaeffer to the Planning, Zoning and Building Appeals Board; Tania Minton to the Parks and Recreation Board; Craig Moormeier to the Tax Appeals Board; Councilman Matt Venable as the council representative on the Planning, Zoning and Building Board; Councilman Brad Moore as the council representative on the Planning, Zoning and Building Appeals Board; Councilman Chris Carr as the council representative on the Parks and Recreation Board and Vice Mayor David Kirsch and Councilman Brad Moore as council representatives on the Volunteer Firemen Dependent Fund Board.
