Gratis prepares for mass biking tour stop

GRATIS — The Great Ohio Bike Adventure (GOBA) will pass through Gratis on Wednesday, June 22 and again on Saturday, June 25. On June 25, the village fire department and EMS will provide food for up to 3,000 bikers between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the fire/EMS station. Twenty non-fire/EMS volunteers are needed to help with the event.

During a Thursday, June 2, meeting, Gratis Village Council noted $3,000 in in-kind services has been committed by village council for storm sewer improvements on Ada Doty Street. Construction funds are provided by the Preble County commissioners through the Community Development Block Grant program.

In other business:

•Two resolutions totaling $976.85 were approved to amend certificates of estimated resources and increase the village beautification fund for 2016. The funds will be used to purchase flowers to be planted in pots and beds along the village streets.

•Approval was granted for the purchase of two new tires for the red squad, and for $120 toward PALS (pediatric advanced life support) training for Rayanne Allen.

•After complaints about carnival rides on the former elementary school site being visible to residents, the owner will erect an 8-foot fence.

•A community garage sale was formally announced for June 16-18.

•Payment was approved for warrant numbers 29011 through 29098 in the total amount of $31,655.75.
