EATON — The Preble County Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, July 20, and local resident Jerry Wick spoke to members about his concerns over Sewer District Six.

Commissioners informed Wick that the district was not officially created as was originally reported last week.

Commissioners have begun discussions to create the district but no formal motion to create the district has been made as of this time.

Commissioners also met with the Preble County Convention and Visitor Tourism Bureau for a quarterly update.

Stephanie Garrett and Jeff Sewert met with Commissioners Denise Robertson and Rodney Creech. Commissioner Chris Day was not in attendance. Garrett informed the two commissioners the bureau’s new website is up and running.

The website is www.preblecountypassport.com and features local dining options, lodging, camping, and numerous other activities to do in Preble County.

The CVB also informed commissioners they have declared 2016 the “Year of the Preble County Covered Bridges” in Preble County. They will celebrate with events like “Meet me at the Bridge,” “Dinner on the Bridge” and create a new informative brochure to celebrate Preble County’s covered bridges.

Garrett also said the covered bridge photograph contest winners have been selected and can now be seen at the Visual Arts Center.

The bureau will be having an “Instagram” picture contest for the Preble County Fair encouraging residents to take and post photos of the fair. Winners of the contest will receive tickets to the Preble County Historical Society events.

An event will be hosted to celebrate the 175th anniversary of former President William Henry Harrison’s speech in Eaton on Sept. 8, over Labor Day weekend. The event will be on Monday, Sept. 7 so it will not overlap the Eatonic Music Festival which will be held from Friday to Sunday of Labor Day weekend.

In other business:

• Commissioners noted receipt from Jill Olberding from the Ohio EPA of A Notice of Violations on July 7. They also noted receipt of the response letter from the Sanitary Engineers department.

• Commissioners noted receipt of, approved and signed a temporary liquor permit for the Eatonic Music Festival.

• The bridge on Sonora’s weight limit has been reduced by the county engineer’s office to 14 tons.

Preble County Commissioners meet every Monday and Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the Preble County Courthouse. Meetings are open to the public.
