DAR meeting

Anyone interested in learning what the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) does or interested in becoming a member, is invited to the group’s prospective member workshop to be held at the Library Administration Building, 450 South Barron St., Eaton, on Saturday, Nov. 5, between the hours of 1-5 p.m. Visitors will learn what the DAR is all about, as well as learn how to become a member. Road closings

Beginning Nov. 7, at 7:30 a.m., Crawfordsville-Campbellstown Road will be closed between Westville Road and State Line Road for approximately three weeks for a full bridge replacement. This closure will begin at Box No. 9400 and end at Box No. 9178. This will be closed to all traffic. Beginning Monday, Oct. 24, Concord Road is closed between Ohio 732 and Winters Road for approximately three weeks for a full bridge replacement. This will be closed to all traffic.

MVCTC conferences Nov. 3

The Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) has scheduled the 2016-2017 Parent Teacher Conferences for Thursday, Nov. 3, from 3-7 p.m. Parents are asked to contact their child’s instructors to set-up a conference at a time that is convenient for them. Leaf Kabobs, What’s That?

On Saturday, Nov. 5, from 1-3 p.m., the Garber Nature Center will host “Leaf Kabobs, What’s That?” Participants will be collecting leaves of various kinds and placing them on small twigs, doing leaf rubbings, and sharing the book, Leaf Man, by Lois Ehlert. Find out what is taking place in the tree at this time of year. Help build the living tree and discover what each part of a tree is and does. Everyone is welcome to run and jump in the leaves at any age. Participants should dress for the weather and meet in the Mary Hayes Pavilion at Garber Nature Center, 9691 Ohio 503 North, Lewisburg. The program is free with donations welcomed.

Anniversary party at Pet Center

It’s been 10 years since the Humane Society of Preble County opened the door to the new Pet Center in Eaton. The agency is now planning an anniversary party on Sunday, Nov. 6, to celebrate the ten-year anniversary and all are invited. The open house party runs from noon to 4 p.m. The public will be able to meet-and-greet with the center’s dogs and cats. There will be raffles, tours of the facility and refreshments. The Pet Center, located at 951 S. Barron Street, Eaton, is a no-kill shelter, which routinely houses a minimum of 80 dogs and 30 cats. Craft bazaar

The Senior Center’s annual craft bazaar is Friday, Nov. 12, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., at the Preble County Council on Aging in Eaton. Organizers are looking for craft vendors to set up during this bazaar. Contact Stacey at [email protected] or 937-456-4947, ext. 215.

Delinquent mobile home taxes

Preble County Treasurer Brenda White has notified all Preble County taxpayers, in accordance with section 5721.03 of the Ohio Revised Code, a list of current year delinquent mobile home owners will be published in The Register-Herald. The list will be published the weeks of Nov. 14 and Nov. 21. To avoid publication, a taxpayer must pay delinquent taxes or enter into a written payment plan contract with the county treasurer before 48 hours prior to publication. To avoid any additional interest and penalty charges, taxpayers may pay delinquent taxes or may enter into a written payment plan before Dec. 1. Anyone having questions can can call the treasurer’s office at 937-456-8140.

PSWCD Record Commission

The Preble Soil and Water Conservation District Records Commission will hold a meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 16, at 8 a.m. at the Preble SWCD Office, 1651 N. Barron St, Eaton, OH 45320. The purpose of this meeting will be to discuss proper public records disposal in accordance with Ohio Law. This meeting will be open to the public. TCN senior citizen luncheon

Tri-County North School will hold the annual Senior Citizen Holiday Luncheon on Friday, Dec. 2, at 12:30 p.m., in the Tri-County North High/Middle School cafeteria. The luncheon is hosted by the Tri-County North Local School District and supported by the Lewisburg Chamber of Commerce. The luncheon will be served by TCN cafeteria staff and FFA students. Entertainment will be provided by the music department. All senior citizens in the district are invited to attend. There is no charge. GM/Delphi retirees

All General Motors/Delphi retirees are welcome to attend a monthly retirees breakfast at 8 a.m., at the Dixie Diner, 595 W. Main St., New Lebanon, the second Wednesday of each month.

Preble County Christmas tour of homes

The Preble County Habitat for Humanity and the Lewisburg Community Association are planning the Christmas Tour of Homes in the the county for Sunday, Dec. 4, from 1-6 p.m. So far there is one home in West Alexandria, three in Eaton, and one in Lewisburg slated for the tour. There are also two businesses to be featured.
