CLAYTON – The Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) FCCLA members recently participated in raising money for Honor Flight, a non-profit organization dedicated to transporting as many United States military veterans as possible to see the memorials of the respective war(s) they fought in Washington, D.C. at no cost to the veterans. The money, $446.50, was raised through a fundraiser at MVCTC.

FCCLA members will be sharing this experience as part of their FCCLA Chapter Service Project Display. This is a team event that recognizes chapters that develop and implement an in-depth service project that makes a worthwhile contribution to families, schools, and communities. Students must use Family and Consumer Sciences content and skills to address and take action on a community need.

Connie Marshal, MVCTC Early Childhood Education instructor and FCCLA advisor shared, “Participation in this project allowed the students to provide a community service by honoring veterans. Students developed leadership skills by actively speaking out about Honor Flight and by seeking and obtaining donations.”

FCCLA is a nonprofit national career and technical student organization for young men and women in Family and Consumer Sciences education in public and private school through grade 12. Everyone is part of a family, and FCCLA is the only national Career and Technical Student Organization with the family as its central focus. Since 1945, FCCLA members have been making a difference in their families, careers, and communities by addressing important personal, work, and societal issues through Family and Consumer Sciences education.

FCCLA at MVCTC includes career technical programs Culinary Arts, Early Childhood Education, and Hospitality Services.
