OXFORD — The Eastern States Exhibition, commonly referred to as “The Big E,” comprises 18 states from Ohio east, and Virginia north. The six Talawanda FFA members earned the right to compete nationally in the 2015-2016 school year in Farm Business Management, Extemporaneous Public Speaking, and Creed Speaking.

The Farm Business Management Team finished first in the contest, and consisted of Patrick Copeland (high individual), Austin Garner (2nd high), Jenny McFarland (3rd high) and Jacob Schulte (5th high).

Kyndal Haven finished in 5th place in Creed Speaking, and Emma Sterwerf finished in 3rd place in Extemporaneous Speaking, which was also the first time that Talawanda FFA members had ever qualified for these events. The three scores which Talawanda gave, coupled with results from numerous other national competitions that commenced on Sept. 16 and 17, were compiled and each state was ranked against each other.

Ohio was the winner of the Sweepstakes Award for 2016. No other school in Ohio had students competing in three events.

Talawanda High School and Butler Technology Career Development Center continue to support Agricultural Education in Butler County.
