Politicians are easy to find — public servants are a rarity. That is why I am supporting J. Stephen Simmons for Preble County Commissioner. Steve has repeatedly demonstrated what it means to serve others.
When hurricane Katrina slammed into New Orleans in 2005, Steve was among the first from this county to volunteer and give a week of his vacation to serve those affected by that disaster. In fact he returned to New Orleans on three additional teams, personally leading two of those. He has served in Appalachia and Central America as well. Politicians visit disaster sites-public servants roll up their sleeves and make a difference.
I have personally seen Steve give up many a Saturday to help senior adult home owners in our county through our church’s partnership with the HIT Foundation. He has led the way, recruiting additional volunteers, securing materials and being the first to arrive and last to leave the job site.
Steve has many professional qualifications to bring to the position of county commissioner, having served as our county engineer for 27 years. But what has impressed me most is how he has served the people of Preble County with true humility.
As I said, politicians are easy to find. But people with proven track records of serving those in their community, church, nation and world are a rare commodity. Steve Simmons is such a man. I invite you to join me in voting for J. Stephen Simmons — a public servant for Preble County.
