FRANKLIN — Eaton’s boys’ basketball team traveled to Franklin to take on the SWBL Southwestern Division’s top team on Friday, Feb. 10. Franklin came into the game at 10-1 in the league, two games ahead of second place Brookville.

Eaton has struggled in SWBL play and entered the game looking for its first league win.

With the odds stacked against them, the Eagles played well against the Wildcats. They fell behind by six points in the first quarter, but kept the game within reach. They trailed 29-22 at the half.

The Eagles cut into that lead in the third quarter, outscoring Franklin 14-12. They trailed by just five entering the final frame, 41-36. Eaton had its best offensive quarter of the game in the fourth, but Franklin maintained the lead and a 65-55 win.

Eaton was able to get the balanced scoring that has been key to their offense. The Eagles had three players in double-figures with Danny Howard and Trevor Pittman both at 15 points. Donnie Nicodemus added 12.

Howard led the team with 11 rebounds and continues to be among the SWBL’s best, with a 10.3 average per game.

On the previous Tuesday, Eaton hosted Valley View for Senior Night. Eaton seniors Pittman, Nicodemus, Howard and Lew Bowser were recognized.

Eaton got off to a good start in this one with the first quarter ending in a 15-15 tie. The Eagles then started to struggle making shots and the Spartans slowly built a lead. Valley View led 32-23 at the break.

Eaton’s offensive struggles continued in the second half as the Eagles scored just 20 points in two quarters. VV increased their lead to double-digits in the third period and went on to post a 66-43 win.

Pittman led the Eagles with 19 points followed by Howard with 10.

The Eagles (6-15, 0-11 SWBL Southwestern) will be on the road for their final game of the regular season, traveling to Bellbrook on Friday, Feb. 17.
