Talawanda’s Mondello, Bressler bow out of OHSAA state wrestling tournament on first day

COLUMBUS — The Talawanda duo of Sean Mondello and Preston Bressler each suffered two losses on the opening day of the Ohio High School Athletic Association’s Division II State Wrestling Tournament on Thursday, March 9, to see their respective seasons come to an end.

Mondello (39-11), a sophomore, lost by pin in 4 minutes, 16 seconds to Nick Vespucci of Mantua Crestwood at 152 pounds in the first round Thursday afternoon. In the evening session, Mondello suffered a second by fall to Blake Wickline of Carroll Bloom-Carroll in 4:28. Vespucci placed fifth.

Bressler (31-16), a senior, suffered a 6-4 defeat to Tarin Rauch of Uhrichsville Claymont at 170 pounds in the first round. In the first round of consolation matches, Bressler suffered a 9-2 defeat to Alex Andrews of Napoleon. Andrews finished eighth.
