Stingrays win own invite

EATON — It seems to be a recurring theme with the Preble County Stingrays.

The team split two meets during the week, before winning an invitational to close it out.

The Stingrays have completed the feat twice during the summer swim season.

The Stingrays beat Miamisburg, 266-262 and fell to Idle Hour 297-187, before racking up 1,833 points to win the nine-team Preble County Invitational.

Stingrays coach Dave Montgomery said his team broke several records in the process.

In the 9- and 10-year old age group, the 25-meter freestyle record was broken by Austin Peace with a time of 15.54 seconds. He also broke the 50 free with a time of 33.51.

Ben Todd broke the 200 freestyle record with a time of 2:49.11 and in the 15 to 18 age group, Tyler Gregory broke the 50 breast stroke record with at time of 33.69.

The Stingrays also had two swimmers earn high point awards at the Preble County Invitational, Austin Peace and Trey Gregory.

“It is really nice to start to see records fall and the kids taking a lot of time off their swims,” Montgomery said. “We have SOSL championship coming up and the kids are getting to their peak so they can perform well at the big meet.”
