COVINGTON —Twin Valley South’s boys’ golf team improved to 6-1 in the Cross County Conference with a win over host Covington on Monday, Aug. 28.

South coach Darcy Robinson said it was “another good night of golf for the Panthers.”

“All but one of our guys beat their individual opponent tonight, so that was nice,” she said. “Our top three guys, Nate (Osborn), Willie (Bowman) and Chance (Parks), continue to play very consistent, good golf. Once we get a fourth player to consistently play in the high 40’s, we’ll be pretty hard to beat.”

Osborn shot a 36, while Bowman shot a 41 and Parks a 45. Cole Peterson (50), Jayden Bassler (57) and Conner Bradley (52) rounded out the scoring for South.

Robinson said Osborn’s round was somewhat unique.

He had nine straight holes where he scored par; no bogeys and no birdies. On the 8th hole, a Par-4, that streak could have easily been broken.

She said he drove into a lateral hazard of very long, thick grass.

“He was fortunate to even find his ball,” she said.

Then he hit his ball completely over the green for his second shot. Then he chipped it up near the pin and was able to put in about a five, six foot putt for par.

“Even when he gets into trouble, he always seems to find a way to work his magic and save the hole,” she said.

Robinson said Bowman played also played well.

“I’m really pleased with how Willie has been playing too,” she said. “On any other team, he could easily be the No. 1 player, but he goes out every match, works hard and gets the job done.”

With the win, South improved to 8-1 overall in dual matches.

South returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 7 at Mississinawa Valley. The Panthers will compete in the Franklin-Monroe Invitational on Saturday.
