Panthers improve to 6-3

WEST ALEXANDRIA — Twin Valley South’s volleyball team swept at tri-match with Dixie and Ansonia on Saturday, Sept. 9.

The Panthers defeated Dixie 25-23, 17-25, 25-19 and Ansonia 11-25, 25-15, 25-13.

“Overall, it was a total team effort but some individuals did have some standout performances,” South coach Leslie Roberts said.

Mylan Crews lead the way for South by charting 37 assists, 29 digs, two aces and five kills. Audrey Chesney notched 18 kills and three solo blocks. Samantha Janecek got on a service roll with four aces, 15 points, 15 digs and had four kills.

Mackenzie Neal came up big on serve receive going 16 of 16, with an ace, 14 digs and eight kills. Sidney Mowell had a plus 91 percent serve receive outing going 51 of 56 embracing her libero roll with 20 digs

Rylie Gearhart charted an ace, 15 digs and chipped in seven kills. Claire Fergus chipped in with five digs and five kills. Alyssa Clark asserted her presence by charting an ace and hammering two kills. Lexi Bennett chipped in defensively with four digs and went 3-for-3 on serve receive. Kayle Yount slipped in and contributed two digs and an assist in her first varsity contest.

With the wins, South improved to 6-3 overall. They are 2-2 in the Cross County Conference.

Earlier in the week, South a CCC match to Arcanum 3-1 and beat Bradford in straight sets 25-23, 25-16, 25-22

Chesney lead the South attack with 11 kills, two solo blocks and five digs. Crews dished out 23 assists, 12 digs and four kills. Fergus eight kills and a dig. Gearhart six digs, six kills and an ace. Neal went 13 of 13 on serve receive, with 11 digs, two kills and an ace. Clark served up an ace. While Janecek had nine digs and three assists. Mowell went 17 of 19 on serve receive with 12 digs.

Last week, Twin Valley South claimed a three-set win over host Mississinawa Valley on Tuesday, Tuesday, Aug. 29, 25-23, 25-22, 25-14.

Crews lead the way with 27 assists and 13 digs. Fergus came up big at the net with eight kills.

According to Roberts, Neal had a well rounded night with two aces, going 12 of 14 on serve receive, with 14 digs and seven kills. Chesney charted three aces, nine digs and four kills. Janecek tallied 13 digs, an assist, two kills and a solo block. Mowell was 22 of 28 on serve receive with 27 digs. Maegan Carson chipped in with a dig and a kill. Bennett and Clark provided quality play at a critical time in the match.

On Thursday, South lost a home match to Franklin-Monroe in four sets, 25-12, 25-17, 23-25, 25-19.

The Panthers were scheduled to play Union County (Indiana) on Tuesday and will travel to Tri-County North for league play on Thursday.
