Arrows win; Blazers fall to ME

WEST CARROLLTON — Preble Shawnee’s football team improved to 3-0 with a 21-14 win over West Carrollton on Friday, Sept. 8.

Senior Eli Gibson rushed for 222 yards on 40 carries and scored three touchdowns to lead the Arrows.

Gibson scored on an 8-yard run in the first quarter to give Shawnee a 7-0 lead. Luke Lovely made it 14-0 with a 1-yard TD run in the second quarter.

The Pirates, though, battled back in the third quarter and scored twice to tie the game. Jordan Joseph scored on a 6-yard run and Tommar Coles caught a 76-yard TD pass from Tristan Dillon.

In the fourth, Gibson broke free for a 41-yard TD run to put the Arrows back in front.

Shawnee will open Southwestern Buckeye League play on Friday at Middletown Madison (1-2). Kick off is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Blazers shut out

CASSTOWN — National Trail lost its first conference match-up of the season on Friday, Sept. 8, at Miami East, 49-0.

Quarterback Evynn Short had 68 passing yards on the night — 54 of those yards to Zach Woodall, who had three catches. Freshman Jacob Ray was Trail’s leading rusher with 30 yards on six carries.

Dalton Mason was National Trail’s leading tackler on defense. The senior had 10 tackles (six solo) and a sack.

With the loss, Trail falls to 1-2 overall, 1-1 in the Cross County Conference.

The Blazers return home on Friday, Sept. 15, when they host Twin Valley South. Kick off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
