EATON —The Eaton Eagles golf team had perhaps their biggest regular season match of the year when they hosted Oakwood at the Eaton Country Club on Monday, Aug 31.

The Eagles fell11 shots shy of defeating the SWBL powerhouse, falling 149 to 160 to the Lumberjacks. Cameron Willis led the Eagles with a 36. Sarah Willis and Tyler Springmier both shot a 41 and Sean Hodges shot a 42.

Afterwards Eaton assistant coach Tim Appledorn talked about the importance of the match: “This is the team that everyone wants to beat in the SWBL and sometimes you look at the score or end result instead of looking at each shot and staying in the moment. Oakwood is a good team and has some really strong players. They will make another run at state this year.”

On Wednesday, Sept. 2, the team traveled to Homestead Golf Course to take on Milton Union.

C. Willis again led the Eagles shooting a 2 under par, 33. S. Willis shot a 38 with Max Fadden shooting a 39. Springmier finished with a 41. The final score was Eaton, 151, Milton Union 196.

While Cameron and Sarah led the way, Appledorn said the depth of Eaton made the difference in the match. “Max and Tyler both played some good golf and we look for it to continue as we head into the stretch run of the season,” he said.

On Saturday, Sept 5, the team stepped out of the SWBL to play at the Middleton Invitational hosted by Tri-Village and took home both the team and individual championships.

C. Willis won the individual trophy by shooting a 74.

The team won once again because of its depth. The final team score ended in a tie as the best four scores are counted. Eaton finished with 328, the same as Arcanum.

Eaton was crowned champion based on Sean Hodge’s 89 as the fifth scorer for the Eagles.

S. Willis shot an 83, Trevor Pittman shot an 85, and Faddin finished with an 86.

On Tuesday, Sept 8, the team will travel to Bellbrook at the Sugar Valley Golf Club. On Wednesday, Sept 9, they host Greenville, and on Thursday, Sept 10 they travel to Middletown-Madison. They end the week by playing at the Hadley Classic at Weatherwax on Saturday, Sept. 12.
