Trail boys and girls cross county teams advance to regionals; TVS sending three individuals

CEDARVILLE — National Trail’s boys’ and girls’ cross country teams each qualified for the regionals with top six finishes at the Division III District meet at Cedarville on Saturday, Oct. 21.

A trio of Twin Valley South runners will join the Blazers as a result of placing in the top 36.

Trail’s boys placed sixth with 232 points. The top nine teams and 36 individuals qualified for the regional next Saturday, Oct. 28, at Troy. Ft. Loramie (76 points) and Houston (152) were district champs, while Cedarville (188) and Greenon (189) were district runner-ups. Also advancing was Troy Christian, West Liberty-Salem, Botkins and Bethel.

Twin Valley South was 15th with 400 points and Tri-County North was 29th with 733.

For Trail, Josh Bishop was (17:19.99) was 19th. Travis Hunt (17:53.82) was 37th, Ian Miller (18:02.44) was 44th, Cameron Harrison (18:17.66) was 53rd, Adam Eyler (18:51.47) was 81st, Caleb VanWinkle (19:65) was 100th and Nicolas Wellman (20:58.96) was 162nd.

Advancing for Twin Valley South was Brandan Wright (17:34.72), who was 24th and Kyle Saul (17:40.73), who finished 29th. Rounding out the Panthers lineup was Chris Keener (18:43.52), who placed 73rd, Tyler Wright (18:55.95) was 86th, Curtis Hittle (22:53.54) was 196th, and Justus Craft (23:01.94) was 197th.

Tri-County North was led by Brandon Smeltzer (18:26.88), who was 57th. Ian Alexander (20:54.08) was 159th, Gregory Ras (21:19.82) was 173rd, Patrick Timmons (21:36.96) was 180th, Dakota Timmons (22:17.46) was 184th, and Curtis Grubb (22:17.46) placed 188th.

On the girls side, the top eight teams and 32 individuals moved on.

Trail totalled 207 points for its sixth place finish. West Liberty-Salem (56) and Ft. Loramie (65) were district champs and Versailles (121) and Covington (137) were district runner-ups. Also advancing was Russia, Botkins and Springfield Catholic Central.

Tri-County North (597) was 22nd and Preble Shawnee (615) was 23rd. Twin Valley South did not field a full team.

Twin Valley South’s Zoe Utsinger was the top finisher among county runners with a 13th place finish in 20:24.42 and will move on to the regional next week. Evelyn Woodgeard (27:15.85) was 147th and Maggie Johnson (36:26.86) was 176th.

Leading the way for Trail was Molly Skinner (20:25.06), who was 14th. She was followed by Lauren Sargeant (20:51.34) in 25th place, Evan Byrd (21:45.38) in 46th, Halle Osborne (21:49.75) in 48th, Jenna Garden (24:05.11) was 101st. Lauren Murphy (25:43.00) was 124th, and JaLynn Byrd (26:41.85) was 140th.

For Preble Shawnee, Caiden Duskey (25:12.00) was 120th, Alivia Reek (25:24.55) was 123rd, Debbie Tombragel (26:30.68) was 136th, Brooke Dalton (29:44.80) was 165th, and Regina Blair (29:56.45) was 166th.

For Tri-County North, Addie Singleton (25:17.27) was 121st, Taylor Cooper (26:02.25) was 130th, Lauren Koenig (26:04.53) was 131st, Abigail Smeltzer (27:01.87) was 145th, Hailey Brumley (28:19.72) was 156th, Julia Myers (28:51.21) was 158th, and Caitlyn McCullough (31:19.32) was 169th.

The regional meet will be held Saturday, Oct. 28, at Troy. The Division III girls race is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. The Division III boys race is slated to begin at 1:30 p.m.
