Tri-County North girls soccer drops game to Bethel, gets win over Northeastern

LEWISBURG — The Tri-County North girls soccer team had two games last week, dropping another tough Cross County Conference match up against Bethel before beating Northeastern.

Against Bethel on Thursday, Sept. 10, North got down early, heading into the half 2-0, but managed to stay composed and nearly managed a comeback before falling just short, losing 2-1.

“The second half, we played a lot better than in the first half. The girls never quit. They stayed tough the last 40 minutes,” said TCN head coach Darren Baldasare.

The Panthers closed out the week with a 2-0 victory, at home, against Northeastern on Saturday, Sept. 12.

“I thought we played pretty well. In the second half, I subbed a lot to get some players in that we wanted to get on the field,” said Baldasare. “I thought that game was pretty even as far as intensity in the first and second half.”

On the week, Hailey Thies led the team with two goals while Megan Hemp added two assists. Paige Daugherty also had one goal on the week.

“I can see us getting better at the things I thought we needed to get better at. Defense was what I was worried about and our defense is playing really well. Even in the games that we lost,” said Baldasare. “We just have to figure out how to score against the better teams.”

North is scheduled to head to Richmond on Wednesday, Sept. 16, for a 5 p.m. game before heading to Madison on Tuesday, Sept. 22 for a 7:15 p.m. match up.
